editorial - research & writing

Good articles and enjoyable books require effective research and attractive, accurate writing. Both Alan and Marion have written extensively for trade, professional and consumer publications, adapting their styles to the specific readership of the various journals, magazines, newsletters and books. Both also have considerable experience in preparing copy for non-publishing organisations such as banks, retailers, consultancy groups and other information providers.

Over the last 2-3 years alone, Alan has had news stories and feature articles published in The Eastern Daily Press, ArtsEast magazine, EDP Norfolk magazine, The East Anglian Daily Times, EADT Suffolk magazine, Suffolk/Norfolk Life, Connections, Antiques & Collectables for Pleasure & Profit, Craft & Design magazine and written a book on ceramics designer Susie Cooper for Shire Press.

Mascot Media's own books are generally researched and written in-house. We can work with artists, art galleries or even other publishers to craft biographical material, descriptive text and contextual copy to accompany images. We can conduct informal and unobtrusive interviews, scour online sources or search through clippings books and published material to produce well-written, entertaining and accurate material. We are equally happy producing a few hundred words, or writing 50,000.

As an example, in 2014 were were commissioned by Suffolk artist Mary Gundry to write and design her first book, which we published in May as 'Drawn to Southwold'. Using her notes, some conversation, clippings and independent research, we were able to deliver text to her satisfaction that put her work in an artistic context, and provided a colourful guide to the locations featured in her paintings.
